What is a Caipiroska cocktail?
The Caipiroska is a variant of the Brazilian cocktail Caipirinha where the cachaça is replaced by vodka hence its name with the Russian consonance. This Brazilian cocktail began having fame only in Latin America, but gradually its reputation has been spreading, and nowadays can be tasted in any cocktail bar or shop throughout the world.
This recipe, also sometimes called Caipivodka, is also very popular in bars and clubs in Brazil. Caipiroska is a variant of one of the most popular cocktails in the world: Caipirinha. As we mentioned, unlike the traditional Brazilian version based on cachaça, the main alcohol used in Caiprioska is vodka whose aromatic properties are very different from cachaça.
This variant does not come from Russia or Poland as its name might suggest: Caipiroska with vodka also seems to have been invented in Brazilian bars in search of novelties. The vodka-based version wants to be fresher and more striking than its older sister, once enjoyed by slaves in sugar cane plantations.
Caipiroska ingredients
The Caipiroska cocktail consists of vodka (prefer a wheat vodka to get a cocktail with subtle aromas, or a rye vodka if you want a mixture with more character). In addition to the vodka, lime and simple sugar syrup are found in the mixture.
You can even add spices and fresh mint to your Caipiroska.
Variations of Caipiroska
As mentioned, in some areas they like to add to their spices or even mint to their Caipiroska. Others may replace the lime with crushed strawberries to make a strawberry Caipiroska.
Also know that if you substitute vodka with rum, you will then be making a Caipirissima.
