Top ‘o the morning to you my friend. If your vegan life is missing the infamous shamrock shake, now there is an option! This vegan shamrock shake is not only so tasty, they are healthy and easy to make.
While shamrock shakes are typically only available around St. Patrick’s Day, now you can have them all year round. The beautiful minty green shake is filled with nutrient rich ingredients that are also vegan friendly.
I used to love those shamrock shakes, until it hit me just how bad they were for your healthy. The calories, the sugar, there is just nothing healthy about them. I knew it would be hard to give them up, so I did some testing and some research to see how I could make a healthier version at home.
When I turned vegan, I then changed out some ingredients to make it vegan friendly and decided that would be the recipe I leave here! Makes a great dessert after a vegan bangers and mash dinner.

Notes
Below are a few simple options and tips to creating a vegan shamrock shake. Hopefully these will help you to make your shake "your own"!
Coconut Milk: While I used coconut milk for my recipe, feel free to play around with your preferred non-dairy milk. Soy milk, almond milk, and even cashew milk may all bring a unique element of flavor that may make it even more amazing.
Food Coloring: The spinach brings a nice minty green color to this shake, but if you are looking for more, then feel free to add green food coloring. I am a fan of Nomeca food dyes which are vegan/vegetarian friendly, gluten free, peanut free, egg free, and dairy free. The dyes are also tasteless so it will not change the flavors of the shake at all.
Whipped Cream: You can choose a store bought brand of vegan whipped cream or make your own. There are many options out there, many do contain coconut which is what is in my whipped cream. It works for me because I love coconut, but you may want to choose a different kind that suits your tastes if you are not a coconut fan. Nora cooks has a great vegan whipped cream recipe with no coconut if you are looking for one!
Just a few simple ingredients and a few short minutes and you will have a delicious treat that will make that sweet tooth happy.
Just so you know, you will need a blender for this vegan shamrock shake recipe!
Ingredients
- 1 large ripe banana, cut into pieces and frozen
- 1 handful organic baby spinach
- ½ cup coconut milk
- ¼ cup vegan yogurt
- 2 tablespoon coconut sugar, or to taste
- ¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ⅛ teaspoon pure mint extract
- Green good coloring (optional)
- Green sanding sugar (optional)
I did not use the green food coloring and my shake was a very light minty green color. If you want to have a bolder green, then consider adding some food dye – just make sure it is vegan friendly as not all are.
The sanding sugar is also optional and I left that out as well as I am trying to reduce my sugar intake as well these days. But it definitely adds something special with those little sparkles of green, so if you are making them for friends or kids – I would definitely add it!
Preparation
Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Top with some vegan whipped cream and sanding sugar and enjoy!
